Personal Dimensions

Though most people on the Modded Server know about this already I thought I would make a post to explain this a bit more and gather together information from some other posts in one place.

With the 1.5.x version of the Direwolf20 Pack we are now able to offer Personal Dimensions to our players. This was not possible in the previous version of the pack as by the time Mystcraft got granular enough capabilities to offer them, all players were well established in the Overworld.

Unless it ends up causing problems, which so far it doesn't, every player is entitled to one Personal Dimension. These dimensions are based on End terrain generation so they are all a large island floating in void. There is no bedrock, there is no bottom, just endless nothing under your island.

All Personal Dimensions are of a single Biome of your choice. If you do not care what Biome it is we will pick one for you. Alternatively you can request one of our failures if we have any that are suitable.

All Personal Dimensions have no weather unless you request it, with the exception of weather caused by Flux due to poor Thaumcraft practices. So be wary, if you pick a Taiga Biome there will be no snowfall without weather.

All Personal DImensions will have as close to a regular Day/Night cycle as possible, and you will not be able to request Eternal Day or multiple Suns. The reasons for this, are simply that it make the game too easy. Solar Power is easy enough as it is, and Eternal Day makes it even easier. Plants have more opportunity to grow if it's always day. Players will not need to fight many mobs if it's always day. All of these reasons are the usual reasons someone would want Eternal Day, and all of them can be handled through a bit more work in game on the players part. Even if you want an Eternal Day world for a different reason, because of the advantages it affords to players, we cannot allow it.

We ask that you refrain from asking for River, Ocean, Frozen Ocean, Volcano, Desert-like Biomes, or anything similar to them. This is because such Biomes are problematic in one way or another. River and Ocean Biomes have excessive amounts of flowing water, as do Volcano Biomes with lava. Some flowing liquids are fine, we just don't want to deal with cleaning up a lot of flows to fix performance later. Deserts are more of a practical issue we just don't want your dimension falling apart because you placed a torch. Frozen Oceans will generate an endless sea of ice, which is no good. A list of all Biomes is at the end of this post.

It is important to note that we do not have absolute control over dimension generation, so you may get things you didn't ask for, like Nether Fortresses or floating Spheres of Glass or other minor oddities. If this happens, as long as you don't suffer some horrible issue because of it, ie Pigman invasion, constant Ghast bombardment, etc., you'll be stuck with it.

Now on to the perks of having a Personal Dimension.

Though initially limited is size, it is your own space to do with what you please. You can build it out into something much larger, or mine it out of existence if you so desire, no one will complain.

With the exception of Ops, no one but yourself can access your dimension unless you make it possible for them. So there is little need to worry about protecting your stuff from would be thieves, or griefers, as long as you keep your dimension to yourself.

You can easily build a Nexus to travel to other worlds and keep others from accessing it.

You can use Chunkloaders to fully automate your systems and keep them running even if you are offline. With the exception of the Nether, Personal Dimensions are the only place you may use a Chunkloader. This is to keep them easy to manage, and problems easy to find.

You can use Logistics Pipes systems in them. Personal Dimensions are the only place we are allowing them at this time. This is because historically Logistics Pipes have been very CPU intensive and we would like to be able to isolate any possible problems with them.

I believe this wraps up all there is to know about Personal Dimensions. If things change I will update this post as needed.
